High potential and gifted education

At our small school, we understand that every child learns at their own pace, and some may excel more quickly in areas like creativity, critical thinking, leadership, or sport.

We take pride in recognising these strengths early and providing personalised support through engaging lessons and activities that encourage our advanced learners to grow and flourish.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

When students join our school, we work closely with them and their families to create a personalised learning plan. This plan highlights each child’s strengths and areas of high potential, including intellectual, physical, creative, and social-emotional skills.

In every classroom, we provide tailored learning experiences that challenge and extend students in these areas through a carefully designed, differentiated program.

Across our school and the Community Beyond

At Borenore Public our High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) students have access to a wide range of opportunities to extend their learning both within the school and across the wider community.

  • The Premier’s Spelling Bee promotes our students’ vocabulary development and attention to detail in competitive settings.

  • CWA Public Speaking Competition.

  • The Representative School Sport Pathway and PSSA events enable our students to trial and compete in sports at regional, state and national levels, fostering discipline, commitment and collaboration.

  • Participation in the Newcastle Mathematics permanent testing program to support advanced mathematical learning.

  • Opportunities for students to test their skills through the ICAS competitions.

  • The OSSA School Spectacular is a special event where students can showcase their talents through dance and acting in front of an audience.

  • Lead Peer Support sessions, guiding and helping our students to build friendships and work together.

  • Develop leadership capabilities through the SRC.
